Briefly, sildenafil works by opening the blood vessels in the body allowing increased blood flow. That is why it is generally used for ED patients because it increases the blood flow into the penis causing an erection. The drug has been used to prevent plant wilting and also used with illegal drugs such as ecstasy.
Prevention of plant wilting
Using a low concentration solution of sildenafil in water by crushing the pill and dissolving it can prolong the time before cut flowers wilt. Some experiments have been conducted and one even showed a prolonged wilt time from one week to two weeks.
Recreational use of Sildenafil
Since Viagra came out years ago it has been used for its intended purpose, erectile dysfunction. It has now hit the club scene. Young men are mixing sildenafil (Viagra) with ecstasy to give them a more erotic sexual experience and to help maintain erections which are hard to get while on the drug ecstasy. Doctors warn that the combination of both drugs is potentially fatal and opens the door to STD’s because the combination leads to risky sexual behavior.

Often the mixture is crushed and snorted to get a mellower and longer high. It has also been combined with amphetamines and either taken orally or crushed and snorted. The abuse of illegal drugs is very dangerous and can cause brain damage and/or become fatal.
The combination of sildenafil and illegal drugs can cause a person to be unable to walk and look glassy eyed, ultimately needing medical attention and even become fatal. Of course it is not recommended to combine sildenafil with any type of illegal drug for cause of potentially dangerous side effects or even death.
