What is sildenafil citrate used for?
It's used to treat erectile dysfunction in males and marketed under the brand name Viagra®. It's also used for pulmonary arterial hypertension and marketed as Revatio®.
What is its history?
It was originally studied for hypertension and angina pectoris but testing revealed that it helped with erectile dysfunction. In 1996, Phizer patented the drug and it was approved by the FDA in 1998 for erectile dysfunction.
How do you take this drug?
It is taken by mouth.
What dosages are available for sildenafil citrate?
For erectile dysfunction, there are three dosages of 25, 50, and 100mg. For pulmonary arterial hypertension, the dosage is 20mg 3 times a day
What competitors exist in the market for erectile dysfunction?
The main competition to sildenafil citrate is tadalafil (marketed as Cialis®) and vardenafil (marketed as Levitra®).
